Another month, and my Sky Blanket is growing beautifully! It's definitely long enough to sit underneath now while I'm working on it, and I can see that it's going to be very long when it's finished, hopefully it will fit nicely across a single bed or else across a row of laps on the sofa.

My previous updates - January, February and March - and here is how the blanket is looking now!

The beginning of the month was the Easter holidays and it started beautifully, lots of blue. In fact overall there is more blue appearing in the blanket which is a relief, I was worried that I wasn't going to have enough grey yarn! There have also been more settled patches where it has been the same colour for several days in a row.

It's been a month of typical April showers, and so on the 8th April I threaded in some sparkly blue beads to represent the rain.

On the 26th and 27th April we had some very unseasonal weather. I used some white yarn in holey stripes for the 26th to represent the sleet and hail. And there I was a couple of months ago disappointed that we'd not had any snow in this country this year for me to use the white yarn!

I've not been as adventurous with different stitches this month, perhaps it's starting to feel as though I've seen most of what the sky has to offer by now. I need to come up with some new ideas to keep it interesting! I did sort through my beads and buttons recently and set a few aside with specific purposes in mind and I'm loving the beads that I've added so far, so I think I'm going to be putting some more in.

I've not been quite as diligent about sewing in the ends this month. Luckily, knowing that I'll be photographing the blanket each month for a blog post gives me the incentive to at least catch up monthly!

The blanket is already starting to overflow the bag that I'm storing it in as I go along, it's going to take up a lot more space over the next few months.

There was a group of us taking part in the Sky Blanket project throughout 2016, and you can find us across social media, in particular Instagram, using the hashtag #skyblanket2016. The project was started by Bug, Bird & Bee, The Boy and Me and You Little Sew and Sew.
