This poor thing is the only remaining sunflower from the four which were lovingly nurtured from seed indoors.
These incredibly healthy sunflower specimens seeded themselves, there were loads of them but I weeded some of them out otherwise they would have filled the entire vegetable patch.
Our carrots are doing remarkably well, and we also had our first (and probably only) courgette. We have so many carrots that I made a big batch of soup. (My soup recipe - put a can of chopped tomatoes into a saucepan, add a fair bit of water, a stock cube, a chopped onion, a handful of red lentils and whatever vegetables you have in the fridge. Simmer for about 25 minutes until the vegetables are soft then either blend or serve lumpy.)
We didn't know what this was until it started producing raspberries.
I've given the plot a good weeding, hopefully we will have a few days without rain now so that we can spend a bit more time out in the garden! Has your garden suffered with all this rain? Or are you too scared to go out and check?
Our garden has gone mad. Desperately needs weeding at some point!
ReplyDeleteI made a lovely carrot and ginger soup once but I don't think I have the recipe any more. It was yummy though, might try and make it again in the autumn.
The weeds take over so quickly! Carrot and ginger sounds nice, it's probably the wrong time of year to be making soup but I like to take it to work and it's a good way to use up lots of vegetables!
DeleteI think that your garden is doing really well given the circumstances with all this rain. Most of our sunflowers have been eaten by slugs. But the marigolds and poppies are doing really well. Strawberries are slow, and grass is growing like crazy!
ReplyDeleteOur sunflowers survived slug attacks, they went for my french beans. Hubby went out to cut the grass last night, it was in a state!
DeleteEverything in my garden has gone mad on producing foliage, but not many flowers! The veg desperately need some sunshine and I hope some will arrive soon to ripen the tomatoes. Oh well last year I kept complaining about all the watering that had to be done.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have many flowers, the sweet peas are doing quite well but have been a bit battered by the rain! It's true that I've not had to spend much time watering!
